The Future of EU Enlargement in the Western Balkans: Notes from Debate, 29th May, Brussels
The European Policy Centre, in cooperation with the European Fund for the Balkans and the EXIT Festival organized a Policy Dialogue on The future of EU enlargement in the Western Balkans on Friday 29 May, followed by the opening of the art exhibition Western Balkans Artists on Europe.
The main conclusions of the debate were that the EU has to “carefully manage” future enlargement to the Western Balkans so that its citizens appreciate the benefits of admitting new members and prospective Member States achieve the necessary benchmarks. Young people can be important agents for long-term change and cementing regional cooperation - and for many of them, visa liberalization is the crucial next step towards EU membership.
