Post Title: Research Coordinator
Reports to: Programmes Director
Purpose of the post:
The Research Coordinator carries out research on Roma rights and/or coordinates research undertaken on behalf of the organisation. S/he drafts and/or edits human rights research and policy reports for the organisation.
Areas of Responsibility:
In consultation with the Managing Director and Programmes Director, and in accordance with the ERRCs strategic plan:
1. Identifying needs and proposing research activities on Roma rights matters in Europe;
2. Designing, implementing and coordinating ERRC research activities:
a. Developing research methodologies, setting targets
b. Identifying and supervising ERRC and external researchers/authors in their research and policy analysis deliverables
c. Conducting field research, as appropriate
d. Making research materials accessible to all relevant ERRC staff;
3. Coordinating local monitors;
4. Coordinating and supervising the production of select research publications, letters of concern, etc.;
5. Contributing to ERRC thematic publications and the Roma Rights journal;
6. Ensuring that reports and findings are appropriately presented on the ERRC website;
7. With Programmes Director, analysing Roma rights related policy developments in light of possible ERRC project activities;
8. Developing and maintaining partnerships with relevant institutions and NGOs for possible research related activities;
9. Commissioning and supervising the translation of ERRC reports; and
10. Other tasks as requested by the Programmes Director.
Essential Requirements:
Strong commitment to promotion of Roma rights;
Superior human rights research experience (at least 5 years research experience);
Proven capacity for the successful design, implementation and coordination of complex cross-country research projects;
Strong analytic ability;
Clear and concise writing style and editorial experience;
Fluency in oral and written English;
Familiarity with international and European human rights law and advocacy, the European political context and the position of Roma;
Familiarity with existing EU and member-state Roma policies and integration initiatives;
Proven ability to work in a culturally diverse team of highly-skilled individuals;
Excellent networking and presentation skills; and
Willingness to travel as required inside and outside Europe.
Further advantages:
Fluency in other languages of Central and Eastern Europe and/or Romanes.
Salary and Benefits:
The remuneration level shall be commensurate with experience, from 27,500 – 31,000 € annually (paid in HUF) plus benefits. This is a one year contract, with possibility of extension.
Expected starting date: As soon as possible, no later than the end of July 2009.
