United Nations Democracy Fund invites civil society organizations to apply for funding for projects to advance and support democracy: Project proposals should be submitted on-line between 16 November 2009 and 31 December 2009. Only on-line applications in either English or French will be accepted.

2-4 September 2010, Helsinki - The 9th International Conference on Romani Linguistics (9ICRL) is scheduled for Thursday, September 2 through Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Research Institute for the Languages of Finland (Kotus, in the centre of Helsinki).

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), as part of the Special Initiative of the Swedish Government to strengthen democratization and freedom of expression, is extending grant support to NGOs, individuals and other civil society organizations in developing countries.

Strasbourg, Nov 3, 2009 – The Council of Europe will be calling for greater protection and respect for human rights, rule of law and democracy on the Internet at the 2009 Internet Governance Forum (IGF) on 15-18 November in Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt).

The right to freedom of expression entails duties and responsibilities and is subject to certain limits, provided for in Article 10.2 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which are concerned, among other things, with protecting the rights of others.

The United Nations took a step towards helping the billion people around the world suffering from hunger achieve access to adequate food with the publication of a ‘how-to’ guide providing the tools for governments, institutions and civil society to assert this basic human right.
