Conference on Religion and Education in Open Society
Oct 27, 2009 - The Open Society Fund Bosnia and Herzegovina calls on the interested citizens to come to the conference ”Religion and Education in an Open Society: Review of Model of Religious Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, on October 28, 2009, at Europe Hotel in Sarajevo.
The Conference aims to present the results of a survey that reviews existing models of religious education in public schools in BiH, and start a discussion with key actors and decision-makers in the field about proposed options for improvement of religious education, so that it could adequately respond to specific demands of multu-confessional society, integration and peace-building.
The project is part of overall efforts by the Open Society Fund BiH to improve education policies and practicies that would allow for sustainable development of BiH society based on principles of tolerance and recognition of the pluralist character of our cultural and historical heritage.
The conference aims to contribute to a public debated based on critical review and arguments, debate that will involve all actors in society in a common model of religious education in public schools that would be acceptable to all students, regardless of their personal religious and philosophical beliefs, or those of their parents.
The publication „Religion and Education in an Open Society” is available on the website of the Open Society Fund BiH. Please contact Dženana Trbić, Education Programme Coordinator, with any questions regarding the conference, by e-mail dzenana@soros.org.ba, or by phone at 033 444 488.
